Set on the cusp of the digital age of the 1990s, Connection Pending follows Joe, a buttoned-up IT worker who spends his days coding and his nights chatting on AOL, and Jess, a lively internet café worker recovering from a breakup. When Joe hesitates to meet his online crush in person, Jess proposes a spontaneous road trip—partly to help him, and partly to prove she’s ready to break free from her own routines. Armed with MapQuest printouts, a mixtape, and clashing personalities, the two set off and slowly form an unexpected connection. But when the truth about Joe’s online relationship comes out, their bond is tested. With humor, heart, and a nostalgic nod to the early internet, the film explores trust, risk, and the connections we make when we finally step outside our comfort zones.
